CIAS
Ensuring patient and provider needs are being centered when developing a software platform for digital behavior interventions.
ROLE: UX Researcher
CLIENT: CIAS, Wayne State University
TIMEFRAME: January 2020 - January 2023
TEAM: 1 UX Researcher, 4 Academic Researchers, 10 Engineers, 1 Designer
THE NEED
CIAS is a platform that allows researchers, clinicians, and students to develop their own digital behavioral interventions. CIAS received an NIH funded grant for a full redesign. I worked with one other UX Researcher to improve the usability of the platform by understanding the needs and desires of providers and patients, define features and requirements, and help the engineering team to understand use cases of the platform.
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
18 interviews focused on need finding and assessing the previous version of the platform
10 evaluative sessions to assess the design of the system while it was still being built out
Strategy and visioning workshops to define the product roadmap
Consistent user feedback aggregation and prioritization
IMPACT + OUTCOMES
Identified 7 distinct user types to be supported (as opposed to the previously assumed 2)
Defined 8 major themes from user needs and desires that translated into a full set of features and requirements
Integration of major patient-facing features including an accessibility dashboard and WCAG compliance
System mapping to help the development team understand the overarching needs and complexity of the system
