THE NEED
In 2021 HARMAN revamped their automotive strategy and began creating their own products, including Ready Vision - a windshield heads-up display (HUD) that leverages augmented reality (AR) to provide drivers with an immersive in-cabin experience.
To guide this first endeavor into product design, HARMAN needed to understand the driver’s perspective including
Identifying, designing, and implementing features that would support situation awareness and encourage safety
Understanding driver needs and pain points
Defining the desired user experience of drivers
RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
3 feature focused generative research studies.
Each study included diary studies with 30-35 participants and co-creation sessions with 10 participants.
Studies focused on Navigation, Safety, and Holistic System Features.
IMPACT + OUTCOMES
Defined desired experiences based on user needs to inform the design and implementation for 14 features
Created content distribution guidelines and UX Strategy for the AR HUD Design
Provided user perspective to drive the strategy for 3 future product roadmaps including the next generation of AR HUD, a FRIT windshield display, and an AI/ML driven feature set
Informed the company strategy for approaching Virtual Personal Assistants and Voice Integration
